Who is DW?

So, I’m from a great place called Bury in Greater Manchester, and have lived in the area for the majority of my life experiencing everything from Bury’s ‘World Famous’ Market to watching Bury FC and the ups and downs of lower league football. Growing up in the area and seeing first hand the work ethic and compassion in people, has been my motivation to not only join them, but merge all good, positive attributes of everyone I have ever crossed paths with, into me. Or tried too at least.

I have not quite hit the big 3 0 just yet, although Covid made me feel like it at times! That dreaded C word taught me more about life and myself than I thought possible! I don’t pretend to know it all, but I strive to learn at least one thing from each person that I meet or speak with! Since 2020 and everyone’s world flipped upside down, I have seen what is capable when people work together with no animosity or aggrievance. I was one of the ‘chosen ones’ to keep working during the lockdowns as in my old job, in the supply chain, I used to have a key role in the manufacture of many things varying from: the filters for the ventilation breathing systems; to food packaging; to toilet rolls (and we all know what happened there); to the unfortunate need for bodybags and coffins.

Working with so many different industries in my career before Do it DW, it has helped me see things from a much broader prospective than some others may. I have seen the same, or similar struggles, in everyone across the board whether that be supply chain delays or cost increases. We really are, all in the same boat. My main aim is for everyone to start using an ore and paddle at the same time as each other. Hence, Do it DW’s company motto… Better. Together.

Unfortunately for me, in between the 2/3 years of the pandemic, I became quite ill and my day to day life became quite a struggle. After an 18 month wait, I was finally seen by a doctor and diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis. After some difficult times and 2 courses of steroids, I am still learning about my condition and I am always finding new ways to help support daily tasks in life. One thing for sure though, I will not let my condition takeover my existence, I will keep busy and active ensuring my mental health stays as strong and switched on as I can.

On to football… the greatest escape I could ask for. Whether it’s travelling 7 hours to Norwich for my team to lose and concede 6 goals on a cold, wet, Tuesday night – to – celebrating a promotion in the town centre on an open top bus. Football and Bury FC are the ones for me. Growing up in greater Manchester, you are warned as a kid growing up to hate the blues if you’re a red, or hate the reds if you’re a blue. Well for me, with a family on both sides of Manchester, I couldn’t and wouldn’t pick one over the other. And found Gigg Lane and Bury FC my place to be. Or as Jordan North said, my ‘happy place’.

Another passion, interest & love of mine is Spain.  Having the opportunity to visit Spain on numerous occasions, I have been able to enjoy the culture from the Catalonia region, to the southerly area around Malaga, to everything in between. I have many good memories of Spain, and have always tried my best to communicate with the locals since I was young. I remember many occasions trying to pronounce 'La cuenta, por favor' when I was young, eventually I was able to let it roll off the tongue a little better and I now find myself able to hold a brief conversation in many different scenarios. From the local tapas, to sangria, to watching the Flamenco... I've seen it all. For me, it isn't just a holiday destination... I find it a place of community and good old togetherness & I can see myself having a base set up over there when the right time arises.

OK, after writing all of this, I am wary of blabbing on too much! If you’d like to know more then please drop me an email or get in touch in any other way you can see below!
